Telephone number Poems

Photos: D.R. Wagner
Line length was based on the number of the telephone number of the student. The results were quite good.

Between Silences

You pounce,

Opening the floor for debate,

Weary, I seek escape,

But you pin me in temporal urgency,

Drowning out the pleas,

Jaws poised and ready for

Snapping pride

Spiral

Inert,

To the waking eye, but I know,

The green buds your head grows,

In mathematical logarithms,

Conical fractals,

Tender textures that stir,

My taste buds

Amir Begovic

Control lost

Radio dead

Stomachs lurching now

As we spiral down to fate

Cruel fate

Try to control the nature of the world

But we die in a plane

***

Eyes flicker

Around, around

Searching for a tale

To erase this wicked gloom

Silence

“Just take the ring to Mordor! I beg you!”

Sighing, he acquiesces

Coralie Donkers

Between Silences

Worlds shake and shift

Silence is a moist sheet

Forming cracked rifts

Shhh

Lovers meet

Givers gift

Breathe

Katrina (or Something That Spirals)

Circling winds

whisper symphonies of

tendrils twisting

with

Time, leaving

landscapes

Blank.

The insomniac

It's quiet.

After the suite's long day, not a sound

can be heard.

The sun brings out motion and commotion

And a fresh day filled with fierce emotion.

But it is late once more.

All are serene, at ease. Aside from me.

Anger

It started

As a discussion between two people.

Ordinary.

Unable to see eye to eye, annoyed,

The calm atmosphere deteriorated.

Undisciplined screaming,

spinning faster and faster into rage.

“You’re Saying a Foot Massage Don’t Mean Nothing, and I’m Saying It Does”

“Uncomfortable silences.

Why do we feel that it’s

Necessary to

Yak about bullshit?” Shut up.

‘Cause “That’s when you know you’ve found somebody.”

When you can shut up for a bit, quoting

In between.

“No One Can Draw With an Icing Packet”

Sallow crust, not as advertised,

Nonetheless crisp,

Encases the slimy pastry

And goo.

Cut.

Squeeze.

Your carefully drawn spirals smear.

Benjamin Steinher

Between Silences

Frozen air,

crisp morning shadows filtering the sun

on the grass.

A quick breath taken at the crack of dawn,

eyelids flickering

behind crystallized glasses, taking in

all that is pure design.

Spiral

To the right,

Perfect for carpenter’s belts and buckets,

Made of steel.

Hang a picture, make two things become one,

Whether steel or brass,

Both cross-head or flat-head compatible,

Spiral in to hold tight.

A Perspective on Silence.

void, blank, zero

nothing

what can be between an eternity

a deaf man observes endless hush.

Awkwardness

presenting itself in the silence,

a break for his hand

***

Your Trip will Bring you Around.

Pick your dose

relax

find your comfy nook a with spacious view

graceful axles, preformed by sky

inward twists

caution, your conscious will circulate

end. Back to work.

Between Silences

#1

Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.

There goes your chocolate bars.

Did you want them?

Sorry.

I was going to give you a break

Off a piece of this kit kat bar

But you were too slow.

#2

My tummy

It yearns for good chocolate

Rich, creamy ones

Sh!

There it goes grumbling for its fill

My stomach expresses itself

Between silences

Something that Spirals

#1

Spiraling

The milk chocolate creates a delicious

Maze

Stir after stir, a whirlpool is made

There is a race to get to the

Center of the cup

#2

I must run

I must sprint from him

I have stolen

Treats

I have taken his chocolate stash

It is a special collection

These chocolate spiral.

Breaks in the Silence

Shouting, yelling, crying,

The heaviness of a day of fighting;

Whispers abound,

Weighed down by harmful secrets;

Heat is released and ice consumes the air;

Our conversations ignite and conflict,

All between the silences

Life

Down and down, down it goes,

Where it stops nobody knows, passed control,

Fast, unstable;

Chaos, dizziness, swirling,

So unpredictable and confusing;

We have lost control, we have lost our grip;

Life spirals out of control

Krinjal Mathur

There all alone

Solely able to see them

Thoughts

Whirling in and out of himself

Why

Where had he gone

Back to the noisy place that defied him

*

Hey, how are you

Replied the sweet little girl

Hello

How innocent and naïve

Youth

Sweet purity

Soon to hold no more place in that big heart

Sean Gaffney

Between Silences

A roar of thunder. The beep

Of

Cell phones

An outpouring

Of

Emotion so strong it brings tears

The murmuring of a crown

Spirals

Poliwag! I choose you cause

I,

I want

To be the best

Your stomach’s spiral is hypnotic,

It dominates Pokemon

Ethan Katznelson

The Time Between

In between

The silence that makes up our lives

Do we talk to fill the time?

Do we talk because we can?

Talk

Listen

All life is, is the time between

Spiraling out of Control

Its almost over

What is happening to our team?

This is not what we’re used to

Mistakes lead to more mistakes

Fight

Hope

The game is over. We lost.

Kevin Dumler

Breakfast Beer

Red cups scattered on the floor

Full of beer

Warm beer

Its gross

They are pretty flat

I wake up and stumble across the room

And drink my breakfast beer

Silence

When I go into the woods

I am alone

I sit

I think

I ponder the world

I imagine I’m floating on Walden

Silence swallows me whole

Albert Hsieh

Between Silence

That awkward moment

When they don’t know who you are.

It is awkward

When they don’t know you are cool.

It is a huge shame that they do not know.

But whatever let them be silent

When I’m around them.

Spirals

That super pounding

In my head just keeps going.

JUST CAN’T TAKE IT.

Probs I had one too many.

But that was seriously a great night.

But never again I told myself,

It just hurts too much.

Michael Arbeed

“Duty”

Click, click, click, click, click, click, click

Does he really want to go through with this?

Please, please don’t

BANG

Smoke is all around

Cough, cough, cough

“Good job soldier, you’ve done well”

DNA

Spirals in me

Keeping guard over my secrets

Passing down all of my strengths, all of my flaws

The former of which I have few

Hey, wait one second, DNA

What did I do to deserve this?
